Lighting a space is not a simple matter. It is not enough for a space to be simply “enlightened”, it must be illuminated by certain light sources in a specific way and with a certain intensity of light.
Each space has its own lighting needs and its own peculiarities. Let’s look at some criteria for lighting each room in a home.
-Living room
The living room is the most basic space in a home in terms of lighting. It is the space that we accept all the guests, the one who gives the mark for the lighting of the whole house and the space with the greatest need of lighting.
Here we usually have our dining rooms and here we need the most light. In this space we will show the style we want to follow for the lighting of the whole house. Almost all of our choices for the type of lighting of our house should be made in this area. Will we use crystals? Will we choose as minimal luminaires as possible? Will we choose classic pieces and chandeliers? So when we come up with the style we want to follow we take care of some details that will help us with the final result. At first we look if the luminaire that we chose has any similar designs to set it in place. If we want to place a light above the dining room, we select a rack-shaped luminaire and place it about 30cm lower than the other luminaires in the room. Thus, we also emphasize on the lighting of the dining room and the decoration of the space. It is also a good idea to put a floor lamp in the living room, which apart from decoration is quite useful as when we watch TV we do not need to open the main lights. Finally, if we have paintings on the wall, it would be nice to place wall sconces with targeted light on the paintings.
-Kitchen
The kitchen is a place that we must pay special attention to the quality of lighting because it is a place that we need plenty of light. Since cooking is something that requires good lighting in the room, we must be careful to have a strong source of light in the center of the kitchen but also to equip our luminaires with the luminaires under the cabinets where most of the preparation work is done.
-Bedroom
The bedroom is an area where we do not need too much light but the right lamp can help us create a beautiful atmosphere. We prefer warm and soft colors. Ideal is the use of wood for bedroom lighting. If we have bedside tables on the left and right of the bed, we choose to place a table lamp in the same design as our main fixture. Finally, if the room is large we can still place a lamp with lampshade so that we have a soft lighting in more relaxed moments.
-Bathroom
Bathroom is an area where lighting plays an important role in shaping the space. The usual but also the right choice is to place sconces left and right from the central mirror of the bathroom or an elongated sconce over the mirror. If our bathroom has a central illumination on the ceiling, a ceiling lamp with good tightness must be installed, but do not forget to add sconces to the mirror as we mentioned before.
